David Lee Enrolled in A Young Lawyer Training Program in England

On April 8, Cenlaw received the notice from the Ministry of Justice of the People’s Republic of China and All China Lawyers' Association. Cenlaw lawyer David Lee is enrolled in a young lawyer training program for 2010-2011 to be held in England. 14 young Chinese lawyers are enrolled in the training of this section, all of which are selected by the holder of the program from the candidates nationally. Starting from November of 2009, the organizer of the program carried out strict examination on the qualification of the candidates and the final participants were determined by experts from China and England through a joint interview.
Participants will arrive in England in June 2010. The scheme will last until next spring which has four elements:
n four weeks specialist language training at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) of the University of London;
n a thirteen week specially designed course on English law at SOAS;
n a twelve week placement with a firm of solicitors in England and Wales; (this may take place in London or in one of the major regional cities)
n a twelve week placement in a barristers' chambers in England and Wales (this may take place in London or in one of the major regional cities).
Launched in 2001, the Lord Chancellor's Training Scheme for Young Chinese Lawyers (LCTS) is a successor Scheme to the highly successful Practical Training Scheme for Young Chinese Lawyers (PTS) which was established in 1989 by the Law Society/Bar Council's China Law Council (formerly the Joint China Working Party) in association with the British Council, the All China Law Association (ACLA) and the Ministry of Justice of China. Nearly 280 young Chinese lawyers have participated in the PTS and LCTS since 1989. |
